Dog behavior expert Brett Endes teaching clients

Colorado Dog Psychologist and Dog Training Expert Brett Endes answers common questions about dog training and dog obedience, his approach, philosophy, services, and rates.

What makes your approach to dog behavior and training different?

I teach dog owners how to truly communicate with their pets.  This is opposed to just “training” them. Which does not always tap into the instincts needed for many dog’s contentment and good behavior.   You may read more detailed information regarding my “difference” in the articles section.

What is your philosophy?

I do not have one!  I have learned how dogs, as a separate and complex species naturally communicate on their own and how to teach this concept to humans.  In reality, dogs have been around much longer than I have…Who am I to reinvent the wheel…right?  Once we learn to understand our dog’s reality (and not the one we project onto them) a dog will instantly sense this and respond accordingly.

Who is Brett Endes?

Brett is a dog psychologist and problem behavior specialist with over 20 years experience working with dogs and their owners.  He holds a degree in comparative psychology from the State University of New York and has been featured in a variety of media for his experience in the areas of problem behaviors, dog aggression, and canine psychology (see articles/video section).  Brett is known for his straight forward approach and amazing ability to communicate with any dog!  He has written articles on the subject for a number of magazines and websites (see articles).  The release of his first full length book by Dog Fancy’s Bowtie Press will be in stores next year.

What type of dog problems do you work with?

All of them!

I have been to other professionals and my dog still has issues.  Can my dog still be fixed?

Brett and his trainers specialize in dogs who have worked, at times extensively with other trainers and behavior specialists.  In most cases, these individuals see a noticible improvement in their dogs the first lesson!  Despite what previous “experts” had said about your dog in the past.

My dog is aggressive.  Can you help?

Absolutely.  Even though dog aggression is a serious issue.  It is primarily based in insecurity.  You will be amazed how quickly most dogs get over their aggressive tendencies once a proper relationship is established between dog and owner.

Can you help with my dog’s separation anxiety?

Yes.  Most books and professionals misinterpret separation anxiety as something different from what it actually is.  Once understood, it is not difficult to get your dog to relax when you are gone.

Is my dog not intelligent or is something wrong because he/she needs training?

Quite the contrary.  Most dogs who display behavioral issues (even extreme ones) are doing so because they are very intelligent and are simply not getting the appropriate outlets for their mental energy or  the “schooling” they require.

What type of programs do you offer?

We offer wide range of programs.  Each situation is unique and may require varying training protocols.  In our initial consultation our experience allows me to evaluate the specific prgram to address your dog’s needs.  All programs include unlimited weekly drop in group therapy classes with no additional fee! (see schedule)

Do you offer individual/group training?

Although we do not offer group sessions exclusively.  All programs include lifetime unlimited access to our weekly group classes.

Would my dog benefit from a board and train program?

At times certain dogs may benefit from a little boot camp to jump start their rehabilitation process.  However, I always include follow-up training for owners since many dogs just get good at listening to me and my staff!  Once we meet for our initial consultation it will be determined whether or not your dog may benefit from a board and train program.

I have an older dog/”tough breed” with issues.  Can he/she be helped?

We work with dogs at of any age, breed, or temperament.

What is the best age to start training my puppy?

The earlier the better!  Good habits can be taught from day one.  By creating a solid foundation and some basic skills from the start, you will ensure an optimal relationship between you and your pet that is problem free.

How much does it cost?

The cost of a training program can vary.  My rates are comparable to most private individual dog trainers and behavior specialists and in many cases even less.

How do I get started?

We always begin with an initial consultation at your home.  This is a full 1hr+ session at a discounted rate and is no obligations.  I do this so you may see results before we start our journey together as well as how I work differently from many other individuals to get you the results you are seeking.  Our initial consultation also gives me the opportunity  to evaluate your dog and coordinate a training program that suits his/her training and behavior needs.
